Track Your UPS Package
UPS moves millions of parcels every day across UPS Ground, UPS Worldwide Express, UPS Worldwide Expedited, and UPS Mail Innovations. Most UPS shipments carry the familiar 1Z tracking number, which makes them easy to recognise and follow. This page shows you how to track a UPS package, decode the 1Z format, understand each status, and judge whether a quiet tracking page is normal or worth chasing.
Have a UPS tracking number? Enter it on our home page for live status in seconds. One box covers every UPS service and 2,400+ other carriers.

UPS Tracking Number Format
The classic UPS number is easy to spot once you know the pattern.
The 1Z number breaks down into parts. The characters after 1Z include the shipper account, the service level, and the package identifier, followed by a final check digit. You do not need to decode any of this to track your parcel. Simply enter the whole 1Z string and the system pulls the latest status directly from the UPS network.
UPS Tracking Statuses Explained
- Label created / Order processed: UPS has the details but the parcel is not in its hands yet.
- Origin scan: UPS has taken possession and the journey has started.
- In transit: The parcel is moving between UPS facilities toward the destination.
- Import scan / Clearance: The parcel has arrived in the destination country and may be in customs.
- Out for delivery: The parcel is on a UPS vehicle and should arrive that day.
- Delivered: The parcel has reached the destination and been handed over or left safely.
UPS Delivery Times
- UPS Ground: one to five business days within a country.
- UPS Worldwide Express: one to three business days internationally.
- UPS Worldwide Expedited: two to five business days plus customs.
- UPS Mail Innovations: longer, since a postal partner handles final delivery.
Scans pause overnight, on weekends, and during long transit legs. A gap of a day or two between updates is normal and does not mean the parcel is stuck.
Why Has My UPS Status Not Changed
- Weekend or holiday. UPS Ground does not move on non working days, so the status can freeze until the next one.
- Customs review. International parcels can pause at import while duties and documents are checked.
- Missed scans. Not every handoff is recorded, so a parcel can move while the page stays quiet.
- Delivery attempt. If nobody was home, UPS may hold the parcel and retry, which can look like a pause.
If a UPS parcel shows no change for several days past its estimated delivery date, open a query with UPS and quote the 1Z number.
